Peony

Peony comprises 50 poems in four sections. The title poem, ‘Only A Peony’, pays tribute to the tradition of the peony poem in Chinese literature. The book continues to explore Chong’s interest in place and identity, especially in poems set in Sydney’s cityscapes. The poems, however, transcend the binaries of Singapore and Australia and address the universal themes of tradition and new beginnings.
